The opening sequence is absolutely breathtaking! Watching the Heavenly Venerable awaken after a century of slumber gives me major chills. The visual effects of the seal breaking on his chest are stunning. It sets such a high stakes tone for the rest of the story. I am already hooked on this journey of a god returning to a changed world.
I did not expect the plot twist where the mighty Heavenly Venerable gets hit by a car and loses his memory! One minute he is summoning lightning, and the next he is waking up confused in a strange bed. The contrast between his divine power and his current vulnerability is hilarious and intriguing. This show, (Dubbed) He Lost His Memory. They Gained a God!, really knows how to keep viewers guessing.
Lin Wan is such a refreshing female lead. Instead of just being a damsel, she stands up to her father and the Lei Clan with so much courage. Her decision to claim the amnesiac hero as her husband to avoid a forced marriage is bold. The chemistry between her and Gu Linyuan is already sparking, even though he does not remember anything yet.
The scene where the bride crashes her car into the hero is chaotic but perfectly executed. It bridges the gap between the mystical mountain and the mortal world so well. Seeing a celestial being get taken out by a vintage automobile is a unique way to introduce the conflict. It adds a layer of comedy to the otherwise serious fantasy elements.
Father Lin is absolutely infuriating! Selling his own daughter to a cruel man like Young Master Lei just for family honor is despicable. His anger when Lin Wan refuses to go makes my blood boil. You can really feel the tension in the room. It makes you root for Lin Wan and Gu Linyuan to team up and take him down even more.
The production value here is insane for a short drama. From the glowing talismans to the lightning strikes, every magical effect looks cinematic. The costume design for the Heavenly Venerable in white robes is iconic. It feels like watching a big-budget movie rather than a quick online series. Truly a visual feast for the eyes.
The detail with the jade pendant was so smart. It gave Lin Wan a way to identify him as Gu Linyuan even when he was unconscious. It is a classic trope but executed perfectly here. Now that he has amnesia, that pendant might be the only key to unlocking his past. I wonder if it holds more magical properties we have not seen yet.
When Lin Wan tells him to call her Honey and he actually does it with a straight face, I died laughing. It is such a funny moment considering he is supposedly a powerful deity. The awkwardness of him trying to navigate human relationships while confused is pure gold. (Dubbed) He Lost His Memory. They Gained a God! balances humor and drama perfectly.
The introduction of the Lei Clan adds immediate danger. Young Master Lei sounds like a tyrant who beats his concubines. This raises the stakes for our heroes significantly. They are not just dealing with memory loss; they are up against a powerful and violent family. I cannot wait to see the Heavenly Venerable unleash his power on them once he remembers.
The story moves so fast but never feels rushed. In just a few minutes, we get an origin story, a reincarnation, a car crash, amnesia, and a family feud. It grabs your attention immediately and does not let go. Every scene serves a purpose in building the world or the characters. This is exactly the kind of engaging content I love to binge-watch.
