Shenyuan finally wakes up
I was so frustrated watching Shenyuan in that hospital bed while his fake fiancee plotted against his real wife. But the moment he speaks up to defend Mu Xiaoning, the payoff is incredible. He tells the other woman to go eat prunes! That savage energy is exactly why I love this show. The dynamic between the three of them in this hospital room is pure gold.
Grand-disciple? More like grand-liar
The plot twist with the old man entering the room is hilarious. The woman in red claims to be the grand-disciple, but her face when the actual master walks in is priceless. Mu Xiaoning needs to fight back harder
Mu Xiaoning stands there so calmly while being insulted, and it makes me want to shake her. She knows the truth but lets the woman in red talk trash about her being a bumpkin. I hope the upcoming banquet scene gives her the chance to destroy this fake disciple publicly. The restraint she shows is admirable but also so frustrating to watch.
The grandmother is the real MVP
Can we talk about the grandmother's energy? She stands there with such authority while the young woman tries to manipulate everyone. When she tells Shenyuan to get divorced if he wants to marry the fake one, I cheered. She sees right through the deception. Her presence adds such a great layer of family pressure to the hospital drama.
Hospital room drama at its peak
There is something so claustrophobic about this entire scene taking place in one hospital room. The woman in red leaning over Shenyuan while Mu Xiaoning watches creates such a love triangle vibe. The dialogue about the apprenticeship banquet raises the stakes immediately. You know the next episode is going to be chaotic. I am hooked on this series.
That ring detail though
Did anyone else notice the woman in red pointing at Mu Xiaoning's chest while mocking her? The body language is so aggressive. She tries to belittle Mu Xiaoning by calling her an idiot for not realizing her own status. It is such a petty move. The visual storytelling here is excellent, showing the power struggle without needing too many words.
Shenyuan's loyalty is everything
Even while sick, Shenyuan makes it clear that Mu Xiaoning is his wife. He shuts down the woman in red so effectively. It is rare to see a male lead defend his partner so fiercely in these types of dramas. His line about eating prunes was the perfect dismissal. This relationship dynamic is why (Dubbed) A Sick Husband? I'm Done Pretending! stands out.
The banquet setup is genius
Using the apprenticeship banquet as the setting for the big reveal is a classic trope but executed perfectly here. The woman in red thinks she is going to win, but we know the master is about to ruin her plans. The anticipation for that public confrontation is killing me. I need to know how Mu Xiaoning will reclaim her title in front of everyone.

The contrast between the red dress and the white outfit symbolizes their characters perfectly. One is aggressive and flashy, the other is pure and understated. The woman in red uses her appearance to intimidate, but Mu Xiaoning's calmness is her armor. The costume design really helps tell the story of this rivalry without saying a word. Visually stunning.
