Switching to The Hunting Grounds and seeing John Voss shoot an innocent person for sport made my blood boil. He is the definition of a False Prince. The contrast between his laughter and the victim's pain is hard to watch but shows great acting. Vivian Cole seems oblivious to his cruelty.
Vivian Cole flirting with John Voss while he is covered in blood is so unsettling. She calls him brother but looks at him with such admiration. Is she complicit in his crimes? The costume design for her is gorgeous though, those colors pop against the muddy background.
Sam Hale handing over the cloth to Victor Voss without a word speaks volumes. He knows exactly what is happening and chooses to serve anyway. The look on his face when the Emperor wiped his mouth suggested he is terrified but loyal. Such a nuanced performance for a servant role.
Even covered in dirt and wearing rags, Elias Voss has more nobility in his eyes than John Voss has in his entire body. The scene where he stands up to Victor Voss in the hall gave me chills. You can tell The Real Prince Was Targeted! is building up to a massive revenge arc.
The sound design when John Voss released that arrow was so crisp. It cut through the laughter and music instantly. The victim falling in slow motion emphasized the tragedy of the moment. It is a brutal reminder of how little life means to these royals in the hunting grounds.
