That CGI phoenix calling out the fake daughter was the highlight of my week! The visual effects in Little Miss Occult are surprisingly high quality for a short drama. The bird's dialogue about acting classes was savage. It is rare to see a magical creature used as a moral compass in a family feud, but it works perfectly here. The tension between the real and fake children is palpable.

The mother's switch from threatening violence with a hanger to comforting her daughter-in-law is wild mood whiplash. In Little Miss Occult, the matriarch clearly runs the show with an iron fist wrapped in a velvet glove. Her ability to manipulate the situation to keep the family together, while simultaneously threatening everyone, is terrifying yet fascinating. She is the true power player in this mansion.

The costume design in Little Miss Occult tells the whole story without words. The contrast between their entrances sets up a classic rivalry trope but with a fresh visual twist. I am already teaming up with the dark fashion icon.
